Why Katy's Barking Gecko ?!

I love to travel, I love to cook and to try new recipes...

After returning from yet another trip to South Africa I browsed one of my Food Magazin subscriptions and

we started to envision how it might be to have a small, a very small restaurant. Somewhere in Australia or

South Africa.
Maybe 4 or 5 tables.
To be in the kitchen wearing t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops cooking for fun and nice people....

Doesn't that sound great ?!
We even came up with a name: Katy's Barking Gecko

Well there is no restaurant (so far....), but heaps of favourite recipes.

All-Australian & More

A couple of months ago I discovered a new shop in our neighbourhood.

Being a fan of Australia I simply could not resist and went in....
I have been to quite a few "Australia Shops" packed with fridge magnets, Kangaroo Road Signs, Australian Flags, Blundstones and Akubras....
Your search for these usual things here will be futile.
This is certainly something different.
Of course you can buy Vegemite, but the other products on sale are much more interesting and tempting.

Elizabeth Wieker, originally coming from Perth (owner together with her husband Thomas), happily answers your questions.
You are able to taste each and every product, except the wines though of course.

You find Murray River Salt Flakes, Australian and New Zealand Wines,Marinades, Australian Spices, Vanilla Extract, Sauces, Dressings, even Paperbark (Elizabeth tells you how to use it) and, and, and.....

In our summer they import Australian Winter Truffles (Manjimup Truffles), top chefs discovered the taste and are now customers.

In the meantime the All Australian became my favourite shop.
I just stroll in to have a chat, of course I all too often leave the shop with a full shopping bag, as there are always seasonal new additions to the stock and so much new to discover on every visit.

Have a coffee while you are there, it's delicious...

Elizabeth is full of new ideas, in the future there will be smoked fish on sale, refined with the spices that are also available in the shop.
Wine tastings, maybe cooking courses are envisaged...

You can buy cookbooks and wonderful Chocolate Creams with Espresso and Wattle Seed or Murray River Salt or Tasmanian Pepper...

And as I said, you are free to taste everything...

Wonderful and unusual dressings...

Chutneys from Outback Spirit, Tomato Ketchup from Stokes (for Real Foodies) and Wild Appetite Smokey Barbecue Sauce, this is still to name but a few....

You have a sweet tooth?! No problem, how about a huge Amaretti (sorry, not Australian...)

But enough now, I will stop with my chorus of praise...
I think you have to experience the whole yourself.
Either visit the shop in Cologne or have a look at the Online Shop
